Protect Telecom Consumers, Pantami Tasks, Inaugurates Bindawa as NCC Non-Executive Commissioner

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) has officially inaugurated Prof. Mansur Auwalu Bindawa as a Non-Executive Commissioner on the Governing Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Speaking at the inauguration, the minister tasked the newly inaugurated board member of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof Mansur Bindawa, to ensure the interests of telecoms consumers in the country are well-protected.

The brief inauguration took place today at the Communications and Digital Economy Complex, Abuja.

Prof. Bindawa’s appointment was based on the recommendation of Minister Pantami, nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari and subsequent confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Pantami noted that the board has the power to approve licenses and some of the regulations governing the sector. He added that most of these approvals are granted based on the recommendations of the management.

“It is because of this I do hope that you will be another good addition that will support, consolidate NCC’s achievement and also make sure that we have people with diverse experiences to be able to work together, support each other towards the success of the commission. I want to use this opportunity to remind the board of its responsibility, prior to the inauguration of the new member. The main responsibility is to ensure consumer protection.”

The Minister charged Bindawa, NCC board members to consider the interest of telecommunications consumers as their paramount responsibility.

In his welcome remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta noted that Bindawa’s appointment will consolidate the improvement of the commission.

“I am sure you will add value to this important process of moving the commission to a greater height,” he stated.

Responding, Bindawa thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the opportunity to serve the country.

“I appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari for the opportunity to serve Nigeria. I will do my best to improve the achievement already made in Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC),” he stated.
