NITMA 2018: NCS pledges to drive Nigerian digital inclusion

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has pledged to drive Nigeria into embracing full digital inclusion.
This charge was made at the NCS 40th Anniversary and National Information Technology Merit Award (NITMA) 2018 held in Lagos during the weekend.
According to the Association President, Professor Adesola Aderounmu in his welcome address, the future of our Society is bright as long as we continue to leverage on strategic cooperation, teamwork and dynamic leadership to steer the ship.
“I have every confidence in the future of IT growth in Nigeria and its facilitation by the Nigeria Computer Society as a leader in collaboration with the government and other stakeholders.
“NCS will continue to play a greater role and grow as a powerful and influential Information Communication Technology (ICT) catalyst, driving Nigeria forward into full digital inclusion and development encompassing a digital economy and digital governance”, Aderounmu said.
In addition, the President appreciated the effort of the past presidents for their contribution to ICT growth in Nigeria.
“Nigeria has attained an unprecedented level of ICT awareness and growth.
“Thanks to the critical and consistent contributions of successive presidents and functionaries of our society over the years,” he noted.
In its 40 years of existence in Nigeria, Aderounmu reiterated some of the achievement attained by NCS.
“Over the years, the achievements include the promulgation of ICT enabling laws by the federal government.
More so, he attributed that several Policies, Acts and Laws promulgated by the Federal Government for the development and growth of ICT in Nigeria were facilitated by the relentless advocacy efforts of the Computer body.
Some of which includes National Information Technology Policy 2002, Tele-communication Acts 2003, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Act 2007, National Software Policy 2011 among many others.
Speaking on the awards (NITMA 2018), the Chairman, Orgainsing and Planning Committee, Femi Williams (FNCS) stated that marking 40 years anniversary, the event has accorded them the opportunity to recognise, appreciate and award the founding fathers and leaders at various times who had made significant efforts in keeping the flag flying.
