NigComSat Moves to Reduce Bandwidth Price to Address Connectivity Issues

Nigeria Communications Satellite Limited, (NigComSat) plans to reduce its bandwidth price to enable service providers deliver avoidable internet access needed to mitigate the lockdown challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NigComSat, Ms. Abimbola Alale announced the price reduction in a remark at a virtual conference on the ‘Socio-Economic and Political Impact of Covid-19 on Telecom and ICT Sector in Nigeria’, organised by Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON)

She said that connectivity is very crucial for the country during the COVID-19 pandemic period saying that the COVID-19 has exposed the technological potentials of the country.

According to her, whatever gap that has been noticed as a result of the pandemic must be bridged by the telecoms and ICT industry in Nigeria.

Alale who called on stakeholders in the industry to work together to ensure that rural Nigeria has access to broadband internet stated that connectivity is needed to get essential services to the rural people.

The NigComSat CEO noted that the industry needs to provide connectivity support for military operation across the country stressing that despite the lockdown military operations were going on.

She disclosed that as part of NIGCOMSAT support for the growth of the industry, it plans to bring down its prices adding that it is also bringing innovation challenge for youths into the country as part of its capacity building of the nation’s ICT ecosystem.

NIGCOMSAT owns and operates the Nigerian Communications Satellite systems.

The NigComSat-1R system is built to provide domestic and international satellite services via a two way satellite communications services across West, Central, South East Africa, Europe and Asia.
