NIEEE Ibadan Chapter Reiterates Commitment to Innovative Nation Building, Welcome New Excos

It was a double celebration for the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) Ibadan Chapter as they held their investiture ceremony of their 4th Chairman, Engr Olayiwola Oyelade and inauguration of Chapter Executives. As well as fellowship conferment on four distinguished professional engineers of the Institute who are members of the chapter by the National Chairman of NIEEE, Engr. Kings O. Adeyemi.

The professional Institute (NIEEE) consists of engineering personnel in the fields of Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, Control, Instrumentation, Automation, Aviation, Process, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Computer, Broadcast, Satellite and allied professions/disciplines.

Engr. Oyelade was the head of an 81 members Ministerial task force Constituted from the Headquarters, Ibadan, Minna, Kaduna, and llorin District of NEPA) that designed, constructed and commissioned the 41km length Bida – Wushishi 33kV line, Wushishi 1 X 2.5MVA, 3 11 injection Substation, Wushishi – Zungeru 11kV line, Wushishi 110.415kV Township distribution Network and Zungeru 11/0.415kV Township Distribution Network in two months.

Also, Engr Oyelade supervised the construction of networks financed by the Federal Ministry of Power He was for many years involved in the take-over of networks sponsored and completed by States, Local Governments and Communities.

The new excos which includes: Engr Olayiwola Oyelade as Chairman, Engr Ogunpaimo Babatunde as deputy chairman, Engr Ayorinde Omorinde as General Secretary, Engr Abdullahi Aremu as Treasurer, Engr Oluseye Ajibade as Financial Secretary, Engr Mary Ayeni as vice chairman (Telecom/Computer) and Engr Modinat Oduola as vice chairman (power)

The National Chairman of NIEEE, Engr. Kings O. Adeyemi, who was present at the occasion also conferred fellowship award on the following members of NIEEE Ibadan Chapter who have distinguished themselves professionally: Engr. Sam Adeleke, Engr. Adefemi Jacobs, Engr Rev E. O. J Ojekunle and Engr Prof Olaosebikan Fakolujo.

In his address, the Chairman NIEEE Ibadan Chapter, Engr Olayiwola Oyelade said it is obvious that life challenges are many and engineers proffer solutions to most of them.

“Electrical and Electronic Engineers tried to emulate the divine provision of light, aid movement through sensors, the automation of physical efforts, bringing efficiency close to 100%. The engineers brought about the evolution of production lines, computer solutions in all areas of life, etc.”

“Mechanical, Automobile and Civil Engineers in their efforts have made and are still making transportation a delight. Building Engineers make our habitations heaven on Earth. Petroleum Engineers bring out the resources for powering our domestic and industrial machines. If I am to count the role of Engineers in the society, it will take an eternity.”

“In other words, the World and the entire planet cannot do without the Engineers. Engineers remain the bedrock of any development, directly or indirectly.”

The Outgoing Chairman, Engr Silvanus Omajuwa Ajuyah said the new tenure marks the beginning of another glorious atmosphere in the institute and urged the incoming Excos to imbibe unity of purpose.

“I will urge the incoming EXCOs to imbibe unity of purpose, to multiply their efforts and to work as a team with passion and commitment to serve and to continue with the good work we were able to achieve and to do something better so as to leave fond and good memories in the hearts of NIEEE Ibadan Chapter members and by extension the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.”

The event also witnessed an investiture lecture delivered by Engr (Prince) Adeyemi Oyedepo. Oyedepo who was the Guest Speaker, titled: Electricity Supply in Nigeria: The Journey So Far. He enumerated the challenges of privatization of the sector to date and made some suggestions for sustaining improvements in the sector, such as better management of the transmission system and total overhaul of same, such that the grid becomes fully functional will need to be expedited, as it remains more beneficial to the distribution companies to tap into the robust energy mix, instead of reliance on just one fuel type.

Other distinguished personalities at the event include HRM, Oba (Engr) Kazeem Adio Adegboye, the Onisanbo of Ogbooroland, as Father of the Day; Special Guest of Honours: Engr. Ademola Agoro, and Prince Dotun Oyelade, (Chairman BCOS) and the NSE Ibadan Branch, Chairman, Engr. Dr. Albdul-Wasi’I Olabamiji Ajagbe.
