NDPC Pledges to Protect Privacy Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The National Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the privacy rights of all Nigerians, including persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Dr. Vincent Olatunji, the National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, represented by Saratu Samande, Esq., participated in the National Disability Dialogue, themed “Technology, Democracy, and Disability Inclusion in Nigeria.” The event, convened by the Cedar Seed Foundation, aimed to address the challenges faced by PWDs in accessing technology and participating in the digital age.

During a panel discussion on “Bridging the Digital Divide: Ensuring Equitable Business Access to AI Technologies and Data for Persons with Disabilities,” Samande emphasized the importance of privacy by design. She explained that by integrating privacy considerations into the development of AI and other technological solutions, it is possible to create products and services that are both innovative and respectful of individual privacy.

The NDPC’s participation in the event underscores its commitment to promoting digital inclusion for all. By advocating for privacy by design, the Commission aims to ensure that PWDs can benefit from the advancements in technology without compromising their privacy rights.
