NDPC Grants IIM License for Data Protection Professional Certification in Nigeria

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has authorized the Institute of Information Management (IIM) to certify data protection professionals in Nigeria.

Dr. Vincent Olatunji, NDPC’s National Commissioner/CEO, emphasized the extensive evaluation process that began in 2021, highlighting the Institute of Information Management as the standout institution. The process involved bid evaluation, Data Protection Impact Assessment of the certification platform, and numerous technical sessions between NDPC and IIM officials.

Dr. Olatunji disclosed that the National Certification Process aims to bolster the local data protection industry by nurturing globally competitive human capital, reducing reliance on international certifications, assisting other African nations with certification, generating jobs for Data Protection Compliance Officers (DPCOs), and fostering Foreign Direct Investments.

He underscored that this initiative aligns with the goal of creating over 500,000 jobs in Nigeria’s Data Protection ecosystem and assured close monitoring by NDPC to uphold service quality, international competitiveness, and global standards.

Amb. (Dr) Ayodeji Oyedokun Oyewole, President of IIM, commended NDPC for their professionalism, credibility, and rigorous licensing process, which has equipped IIM for the forthcoming task. He pledged utmost priority to security, integrity, trust, and confidence in the certification process.
