NCC Unveils Centre of Excellence to Power Nigeria’s Digital Future

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has taken a significant stride towards building a robust digital economy by launching a Centre of Excellence in Abuja. The facility aims to equip Nigerians with the technical and vocational skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The centre, which was officially inaugurated yesterday, is expected to serve as a catalyst for innovation and job creation across various sectors. By providing hands-on training and access to state-of-the-art equipment, the NCC seeks to bridge the skills gap and empower Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s digital transformation.

Speaking at the launch, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, expressed his enthusiasm for the centre’s potential to become a regional hub for digital excellence. He emphasized the critical role of human capital in harnessing the power of connectivity and driving economic growth.

“My expectation is that NCC will collaborate with more stakeholders to make this initiative a true centre of excellence for Africa. There is no society in the world that can prosper without connectivity. The connectivity requires human for its proper functioning,” Dr. Tijani stated.

Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, highlighted the centre’s significance in providing practical learning opportunities for Nigerian engineers and technicians. He noted that the centre will be instrumental in preparing the workforce for the 5G era and fostering a culture of innovation.

“This is the first time in Nigeria when our radio engineers will have the opportunity to come and touch and feel what a radio looks likes,” Dr. Maida said. “With 5G era and the skill that engineers and other Nigerians will acquire, we would actually see a lot of innovations through this Centre.”
