In a bid to champion academic excellence, MTN Nigeria Foundation has announced a significant boost to its Top 10 UTME Scholarship program, startung this year, 2024.

Since 2020, the top ten scoring candidates of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), as declared by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), have been automatically eligible for this prestigious scholarship. The initiative aims to recognize and reward the exceptional academic achievements of Nigerian students entering tertiary education.

Under the revamped scheme, these high-achieving scholars will now receive an annual scholarship amounting to N300,000, a substantial increase from the previous N200,000.

This enhancement reflects MTN’s commitment to supporting education and nurturing the brightest minds in Nigeria. By investing in these scholars, MTN seeks to empower them to pursue their academic aspirations with financial security and peace of mind.

The Top 10 UTME Scholarship is not limited by the candidates’ chosen fields of study or the type of tertiary institution they attend, whether public or private. This inclusive approach ensures that deserving students from all academic disciplines and backgrounds have the opportunity to benefit from the program. Also, recipients are assured of continued support throughout their academic journey, with the scholarship renewable each year upon meeting the specified grade requirements.

As the annual UTME results are awaited with anticipation each year, the announcement of MTN Foundation’s increased scholarship funding adds a new dimension of excitement for high-scoring candidates.

In addition, MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS) since 2012 has been targeted at eligible 200 and 300-level blind students studying any course in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education). Starting in 2024, the number of blind students to receive scholarships has increased from 60 to 100. The annual award amount also increased from N200,000 to N300,000 and will be awarded until graduation if grade requirements are met.

MTN Science and Technology Scholarship is open to 300-level students studying Science and technology-related courses in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

MTN’s decision to bolster the scholarship fund underscores its dedication to fostering educational advancement and socio-economic development in Nigeria. By providing financial assistance to outstanding students, the telecommunications giant hopes to contribute to the nation’s intellectual capital and workforce development. Through initiatives like the Top 10 UTME Scholarship, MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS) and the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS), MTN reaffirms its commitment to making a positive impact on education and empowering the next generation of leaders.

Beyond the recognition and financial support they receive, these scholars represent the bright promise of Nigeria’s future, empowered to pursue their academic dreams and make meaningful contributions to society.
