Mobile Subscribers in Nigeria hits 188.9 million in March 2020

Mobile network subscribers across Nigeria has increased from 187.15 million in February 2020, to 188,989,051 million in March 2020, statistics released recently by the telecoms industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) revealed this.

According to this statistics,subscriber base increased by 1,846,975 from February 2020 and 15,568,954 subscribers on Year-on-Year growth compared to 173,713,842 million recorded in March 2019.

The statistics obtained from the NCC website, however put that the total active lines for the month of march 2020 at 189,282,796 million.

This showed the addition of fixed-wired line subscription which reached 107,491 in March this year and VoIP 186,254.

According to the statistics, 21st Century Technologies recorded 96,695 fixed-wired subscribers on its network to maintain the highest number of fixed wired lines, followed by Vodafone Limted, which has 26,437, fixed-wired subscribers on its network, and MTN, which has 5,449 fixed-wired subscribers on its MTN fixed-line.

Globacom Limited recorded 2,789, on its network followed by IPNX one of the oldest fixed-line service recorded  2,221, while Multilinks recorded the least wireless subscription number of  with 428 as at March 2020.

In the area of mobile voice subscription, the NCC statistics showed that MTN maintained the position of the largest Mobile Network Operator (MNO) with a subscriber number of 65,034,615 million, followed by Globacom with a subscriber number of 46,203,703 million, while Airtel maintained its position as the third-largest MNOs in the country, with a subscriber number of 45,238,335, followed by 9mobile, which is placed the fourth largest MNOs in the country with a subscriber number of 16,838,403 million.

The statistics also revealed that MTN maintained the position of the largest telecoms operator in the country since its rollout in 2001, adding a huge number of subscribers on its network on a yearly basis.
