Financial Inclusion: Airtel Money Users Hit 38 Million, Women Customers Take 38% 

Airtel Africa’s 2024 Sustainability Report has  revealed Airtel Money’s deep commitment to bridging the digital and gender divide as well as promoting financial inclusion  and empowering African communities.

The report highlights the company’s impactful initiatives aimed at promoting financial inclusion, fostering digital learning, and cultivating a diverse and inclusive workforce.

One of the most noteworthy achievements is Airtel Africa’s success in driving financial inclusion for unbanked populations through its mobile money platform, Airtel Money.

With a staggering 38 million registered users, Airtel Money is playing a transformative role in Africa. This platform empowers individuals and businesses to access essential financial services such as mobile payments, money transfers, and bill payments, significantly reducing reliance on traditional banking systems.

Notably, Airtel Money is making a significant impact on women’s financial empowerment. Women represent a substantial 38% of the platform’s customer base, demonstrating the company’s dedication to financial inclusion for all.

Beyond financial inclusion, Airtel Africa is actively promoting digital learning initiatives. The company’s five-year, $57 million partnership with UNICEF is a testament to this commitment. In the 2023/24 academic year alone, this program successfully connected nearly 1,200 schools to the internet, providing thousands of students with access to valuable online educational resources.
