As part of its contribution to ensure food is distributed to the vulnerable while encouraging people to observe safety measures, Swift Networks Limited distributed food items, hand sanitizers and face masks in its immediate environment around its office locations both in Island and Mainland of Lagos.
The company disclosed that over 10,000 persons befitted from the food distribution which served as a welcome palliative.
The Covid-19 global pandemic had not only threatened the security of human life, but also food security, especially in less developed economies and societies where the distribution of palliatives does not reach the target beneficiaries fast enough due to either logistics challenges or poor data.
Commenting on the gesture, Charles Anudu, Managing Director, Swift Networks Limited, stated that the company had to be its brother’s keeper, especially at a desperate time like this.
“As about 80% of Nigerians need to hustle outside daily to be able to put food on the table, a lot of people’s ability to provide for their families had been severely constrained by the current lock-down. So we thought that we should extend a helping hand to them since Nigeria has virtually no safety net for the vulnerable.

He noted that our neighbours are part of our community. They run the tricycles that bring our people from the bus stop, run the small corner shops from where we buy groceries and generally work in our neighbourhood. As a good corporate neighbour, we will be building a stronger community by demonstrating our care at a time like this.
On who should play this role at this time, in Charles’ words:
“All I can say to both our government and corporate citizens. We need to do more to provide for the poor and vulnerable. They are having a rough time in the current circumstance.”
During the distribution, which was supervised by both security and health personnel, recipients were also enlightened on the need to regularly observe safety measures by washing their hands, using hand sanitizers, using of face masks, maintain social distancing and keeping their environments clean.
