Airtel Nigeria Soars to 29% Market Share, Tops Telecoms Sector in March

Airtel Nigeria has emerged as the dominant force in the country’s telecommunications sector, according to a recent report by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The NCC data reveals a significant surge in Airtel Nigeria’s market share, reaching a remarkable 29% by the end of March 2024. This impressive growth solidifies Airtel Nigeria’s position as a leading telecom provider in the competitive Nigerian market.

This surge comes in stark contrast to other major mobile network operators. MTN, a previous market leader, witnessed a notable decline in its market share by 3.19%. Similarly, 9mobile and Glo also experienced setbacks, with decreases of 0.5% and 0.58% respectively, particularly in their internet subscriber base.

Airtel Nigeria’s success extends beyond just market share. The company has also seen a substantial increase in its internet subscriber base, boasting a staggering 165% growth. This rise coincides with the launch of Airtel 5G in June 2023, highlighting the company’s commitment to providing cutting-edge technology and expanding its customer reach across Nigeria.

Airtel Nigeria’s ascendancy comes at a crucial time for the telecom industry, with mobile network operators facing challenges like rising operational costs and fluctuating exchange rates. Despite these hurdles, Airtel Nigeria’s recent performance solidifies its position as a frontrunner in Nigeria’s ever-evolving telecom landscape.
