Airtel Nigeria Mobile Operating License Pending Renewal, NCC Clarifies Position

Contrary to news circulating in the media the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has disclosed that the body is yet to renew the Operating license of Airtel Nigeria.

The refutal was contained in a statement by Dr Ikechukwu Adinde,the NCC Director of Public Affairs.

The statement made available to Business Remarks and signed the commission’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde reads, “the attention of the Nigerian Communications Commission has been drawn to a recent statement on an online publication credited to the Managing Director/Chief Executive Office of Airtel Nigeria to the effect that the mobile operating license of Airtel has been renewed by the Commission for another period of ten years.

Mr. Segun Ogunsanya was said to have made the statement while speaking in Lagos on Wednesday, July 14, 202, during the media launch of Airtel’s corporate social responsibility programme, ‘Touching Lives 6’.

The Commission stated that while Airtel Nigeria has applied for the renewal of the Universal Access and Service (UASL) License granted to it by the Commission, the application is yet to be approved as it is still undergoing required regulatory process.

However, NCC noted that this statement is issued for the guidance of our stakeholders.

In 2001, Airtel procured its operating license in Nigeria.
