A recent report by Ookla,a global leader in internet testing, data and analysis has revealed that Airtel Nigeria is the fastest mobile operator among top providers in Nigeria in second quarter (Q2) of 2021.
According to the report, the telecommunication company has with a Speed Score of 28.82 on modern chipsets.
In measuring the consistencyy of each operator’s performance, the report disclosed that MTN had the highest Consistency Score in Nigeria during Q2 2021, with 83.4 per cent of results showing at least a 5 Mbps minimum download speed and 1 Mbps minimum upload speed.
Airtel followed with a score of 82.5per cent, while Glo and 9mobile had a score of 64.1 per cent and 46.4per cent respectively.
The report also revealed Port Harcourt to be the state with the fastest mean mobile download speed among Nigeria’s most populous cities during Q2 2021 at 26.34 Mbps while Ibadan showed the fastest mean download speed over fixed broadband among Nigeria’s most populous cities during Q2 2021 at 22.77 Mbps.
Recall, Business Remarks earlier reported the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Airtel Nigeria to expand broadband access in the state while budgeting N390 million.
According to the Governor “the MoU is a major landmark for us as an administration because since we came into office we have identified about 41 locations in Kaduna State that are black-spots that have no telecom services at all. We have been pursuing the NCC to deploy the Universal Service Provision Fund to fill those gaps without much success.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Office of Airtel Nigeria, Mr. Segun Ogunsanya during the launch of Airtel’s corporate social responsibility programme, ‘Touching Lives 6’ said the telecom company has applied for the renewal of its mobile operating license in Nigeria for another period of ten years.
